Fitz Chem is proud to share the news of our latest contribution to the suncare industry.
We are a charter member of the PASS Coalition (Public Access to Sunscreens), a coalition formed to fight the growing skin cancer epidemic in the United States by ensuring Americans have access to the latest effective sunscreens ingredients.
Some of the other PASS Coalition members are The Skin Cancer Foundation, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Melanoma Research Foundation, Dr. Fallick, Dr. Henry Lim, Dr. Nadim Shaath, Dr. Steven Wang, Dr. Warwick Morison, Beiersdorf, L'Oréal USA Products, and BASF Corporation.
The mission of the PASS Coalition is to work collaboratively with the FDA, Congress, the White House, health providers, consumer organizations and stakeholders to establish a regulatory pathway for timely pre-market review of new, safe and effective sunscreen ingredients. We are also committed to ensuring that FDA has the resources it needs to conduct the pre-market review of sunscreen time and extent applications (TEAs).
One in five Americans will develop skin cancer within their lifetime, according to the SkinCancer.org. However, a recent World Health Organization report determined that skin cancer is preventable. The 2010 study found that daily sunscreen use reduced the incidence of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, by half. And while a report released this week in the journal Cancer suggests that a dose of aspirin a few times a week may help reduce the risk of developing melanoma, it is not considered a replacement for sunscreen protection.
